Welcome to the BMI
Systems Research Group
The Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) Systems Research Group is dedicated to pioneering direct communication pathways between the human brain and external machines. Independent of a user’s physical abilities, BMI technology represents a paradigm shift in how we augment human capabilities - bypassing conventional motor output pathways of nerves and muscles to translate brain signals directly into actionable commands for neurorehabilitation, assistive devices, and intelligent technology systems.
From neural sensing to intelligent action
The BMI pipeline brings together neural acquisition, signal processing, machine learning, translation algorithms, feedback and human-centred applications as one connected engineering system.
Engineering the complete BMI pathway
Our research aims to decode the complex neural signatures of motor and cognitive processes, interpret human intentions, and interface those signals with external devices. We accomplish this by leveraging and continuously advancing our expertise in electrophysiology & neural signal acquisition, advanced signal processing, machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, and user interface design.
