Low-cost Oximeter to monitor blood oxygen levels developed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Researchers at IIT Palakkad developed a low-cost pulse oximeter for continuous monitoring of blood oxygen levels, particularly for patients undergoing treatment for serious respiratory and other life-threatening conditions. The system was designed to provide clinicians with detailed oxygen-level monitoring while substantially reducing the cost compared with existing devices.
The device was developed in collaboration with Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) and underwent successful trial use at EMS Cooperative Hospital, Perinthalmanna. The work was supported through a Federal Bank CSR project, with plans reported for commercial deployment.
